Brats and Sauerkraut

Well, as my Facebook friends know, my first photo session with the bratwurst was not so pretty.  Without going into too much detail, I thought I would have sauerkraut, melon balls and a full bratwurst.  Use your imagination…geez!  So, back to the drawing board and I have SLICED sausage and I changed the melon balls to a sliced tomato.

If you are not making your own sausage, be careful with the sausage that you buy.  Whole Foods had just made these the other morning so I picked up a couple.  Yes, I’m sure the ones I purchased weren’t as “clean” as if I had made them myself; however, this was my best choice in a pinch.  Watch out for nitrates, cane syrup, and added ingredients with weird names!

Also, my favorite pre-made sauerkraut is Bubbies ~ it just doesn’t compare to any brand that I’ve ever tried. Unfortunately, everyone else thinks this too as Whole Foods was out of it when I was shopping, so I found an organic brand that was still very good.

On this plate, I sliced a small tomato and added a dollop of whole grain Dijon mustard.

Simple, simple…but so good.
