Mayo-Free Tuna Salad

Mayo-Free Tuna Salad

This Mayo-Free Tuna Salad doesn’t miss a beat of flavor from the elimination of mayonnaise. I have recently started buying tuna packed in pure olive oil as opposed to being packed in water.  It went against everything that I was traditionally taught.  Oil is fat, therefore, fat will make you fat, right? ~ pshaw.  No, fat doesn’t make you fat, grains and sugar and inactivity do.  It is a difficult thing to retrain your brain.  I have been changing my eating habits over the past two years of my life.  The fun part of the journey is learning new things to eat, reading about what goes into my body, actually listening to what my body is telling me and teaching my daughters the same things.

Mayo-Free Tuna Salad

For this simple tuna salad, I used a 5 ounce can of tuna packed in olive oil.  Drain the oil and transfer the tuna to a bowl.

Add:
2 teaspoons of mustard (I used yellow mustard, but add some Dijon if you want a kick)
1-2 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon of freshly chopped dill
sea salt and ground pepper to taste
1 squirt of Sriracha or preferred hot sauce

Optional additions: capers, chopped celery, chopped onion, nuts

I rounded out this meal with some strawberries, walnuts, 1/2 hard-boiled egg, raw mini-zucchini, and some olives.

Enjoy!
